Sustainability Statement
Materials Sourcing
We prioritise using sustainable and eco-friendly materials in our projects. We actively look for suppliers that offer materials with low environmental impact, such as recycled, reclaimed, or FSC-certified wood, and low VOC (volatile organic compound) paints and finishes.
Energy Efficiency
We implement energy-efficient practices in our studio and encourage clients to do the same in their homes and commercial spaces. This could include using LED lighting, energy-efficient appliances, and incorporating passive design principles to reduce the need for heating and cooling.
Waste Reduction
We minimise waste generation by reusing materials whenever possible and recycling materials that can’t be reused. We implement a waste management system in our studio to properly sort, recycle and dispose of waste. Our food waste and coffee grinds are composted to benefit the garden outside our studio.
Local Sourcing
Where possible we source materials and products locally to our projects to reduce transportation emissions and support local economies. We are always on the look out for local artisans and suppliers who produce high-quality, sustainable goods. Where possible we use tradespersons local to the site to avoid unnecessary journeys and carbon emissions.
Green Certifications
We are aware of green certifications for projects such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and the WELL Building Standard. If we can achieve these certifications in our projects then we demonstrate commitment to sustainability and have the potential to further attract environmentally-conscious clients.
Education and Advocacy
We actively educate our staff, clients, and the community about the importance of sustainability in design. We advocate for sustainable design practices within the industry and participate in local sustainability initiatives and events.
Longevity and Timelessness
We design with longevity and timelessness in mind to reduce the need for frequent renovations and updates. We encourage clients to invest in quality materials and designs that will stand the test of time, reducing waste and environmental impact.
Collaboration
We collaborate with other professionals in the industry, such as architects, engineers, and contractors, to integrate sustainability into all stages of the design and construction process.
Monitoring and Evaluation
We regularly monitor and evaluate our sustainability efforts to identify areas for improvement and track progress over time. We like to set specific goals and targets to strive towards, such as reducing energy consumption and increasing the use of recycled materials. We are currently at the start of our journey towards B-Corp status for the studio as we aim to improve our sustainability practices and explore innovative solutions and technologies that can further reduce our environmental footprint.
By implementing these strategies, our interior architecture and design studio can make significant strides towards sustainability while delivering beautiful and environmentally-responsible spaces for our clients.
